Program Overview
The Nurse Assistant Training Program (NATP) at Emike Nurse Assistant Training Institute provides the required theory instruction and supervised clinical training necessary to meet California Department of Public Health (CDPH) standards for nurse assistant education.
The program is structured in accordance with Title 22, California Code of Regulations, and prepares students for entry-level nurse assistant practice in long-term care and healthcare settings.
Theory Instruction
Theory instruction provides students with foundational knowledge required for safe and effective nurse assistant practice. Instruction includes classroom-based learning and approved instructional methods.
Theory topics include, but are not limited to:
- Patient rights and ethical responsibilities
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Infection control and asepsis
- Safety and emergency procedures
- Infection control and asepsis
- Body mechanics and positioning
- Basic nursing care skills
- Vital signs
- Nutrition and hydration
- Long-term care concepts
- Observation, reporting, and documentation
Theory instruction may be delivered through approved online or in-person methods, consistent with CDPH guidelines.
Clinical Training
Clinical training provides hands-on, supervised experience in the performance of nurse assistant skills
Clinical training includes
Direct patient care under RN supervision
Application of theory to real-world clinical settings
Practice of required nurse assistant competencies
Observation and documentation of patient conditions
Reinforcement of infection control and safety procedures
Clinical instruction is conducted in person at CDPH-approved clinical facilities and supervised by qualified Registered Nurse (RN) instructors.
Instructional Methods
The program utilizes a combination of instructional strategies, including:
- Lecture and guided discussion
- Demonstration and return demonstration
- Skills laboratory practice
- Supervised clinical practice
- Competency evaluation and skills verification
Students must demonstrate competency in required skills prior to program completion.
Instructional Qualifications
All instruction is provided by qualified Registered Nurse (RN) instructors who meet CDPH requirements, including:
- Active California RN licensure
- Required clinical experience
- Compliance with CDPH instructor eligibility standards
RN instructors provide direct supervision during both theory and clinical instruction.
Attendance and Participation
Regular attendance and active participation are required for successful completion of the Nurse Assistant Training Program.
- Students must complete all required theory and clinical hours
- Absences and make-up hours are managed in accordance with the program’s attendance policy
- Failure to meet attendance requirements may result in dismissal from the program

Evaluation and Completion Requirements
To successfully complete the Nurse Assistant Training Program, students must:
- Complete all required instructional hours
- Demonstrate competency in required nurse assistant skills
- Meet program evaluation standards

Upon successful completion, students receive documentation verifying program completion in accordance with CDPH requirements.
Certification Eligibility
Completion of the Nurse Assistant Training Program allows students to apply for the California Nurse Assistant Certification Examination, subject to state requirements.

- Passing the certification exam is required for placement on the California Nurse Assistant Registry
